PFEIL SWISS MADE CARVING TOOL Posted by johian on Feb 28, 2009
Hi everybody,

I going to learn to carve the marionettes and I'm looking to buy me a good set of  Pfeil Swiss made carving tools. Does anyone knows a good adress because over here they will cost me a fortune!

I'm also looking for the book of Peter Fraser: introducing puppetry.

Thx for any help.

Hi Billy,

I asked the puppetbuilder who will learn me how to carve and he told me that I will need about a 20 pieces to start with. So I think its not a beginners set of 6.   ... and there will be a lot more to buy... but I can say that my hands want to start

I did find this information from http://www.chippingaway.com/

Many years ago Pfeil agreed to give the original owners of Woodcraft Stores exclusive selling rights of Swiss Made tools for all of USA.  Unfortunately Chipping Away, nor any other US dealer or  store, can sell Swiss Made tools within the USA.  We truly regret not being able to accomodate you, but out of respect for Pfeil and Woodcraft we will not break our commitment to abide by their agreement.  We are happy that we can sell to Canadian and International customers.

I did not realize how expensive these tools are.................................  just as hand made knives are great tools to a chef ( Myself being a retired one ). I can see how these would be valuable to someone working with wood. I hope you get the tools you need.............. I't seems as if Woodcraft.com is the only place to buy them. I did see a few on EBay but nothing to get excited about.

Try Dover books for the Peter Frasr Book. I am sure I saw it there but am not sure of their shipping-Steve

Whoops, wrong book. They have the Mable and Les Beaton book on Marionette making. This is one of the best books on the subject, though. it is WWW.Doverpublications.com. If you can't find it new, I do have a copy of peter Fraser bocks. One is a puppet circus and I can't remember the name of the other one.

or get it from amazon.

1. A manual of Puppetry by R.B.Inverarity (free down loadable chek the link in books section ..i have posted in P&S)
2. The Marionette by George Merten
3. More performing toys by Alice White (suggests tools, equipments plus making process using junk & wastes).
4. Practical Puppetry by John Mulholland
5. Simple Puppetry by Sheila Jackson. (simple wooden puppets are illustrated)
6. Learning with puppets practical guidelines for Primary & Middle schools by David Currell.(his illustrations are simple)
7. An Introduction to Puppets & Puppet making by David Currell (1994 reprint in papaerback) (very well illustated & worth keeping).
8. The complete book of Marionettes by Mabel
9. Marionettes how to make & work them by Helen Fling
10. Marionette source book Theory & Technique by Luman Coad

David Currell's latest book on Marionettes may be a useful guide. Chek on amazon.
