Hello. I've just joined... Posted by nynah on Mar 05, 2009
Hi all....I am new here. I've been reading some posts and trying to figure out how the boards work here. I think I might have the hang of it. I've just started making puppets. I've made two so far and have tons of ideas for more. I sleep, eat, and breathe puppets now! I just can't see why everyone doesn't make puppets! I'm learning from my mistakes though. The first thing I need to learn is to slow down! I'm in such a rush to see the finished puppet I make mistakes. I'm very interested in learning how to make and attach yarn hair, so any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. I will try to get pics of the two puppets I've made so far in an album. My dream is to one day be able to make the foam puppets....I think they're gorgeous!

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff.......................... It seems as if you have been bitten by the puppet bug. It is not serious...... nothing a bolt of fleece and a lot of foam want help. There is not a cure for it so you will just have to go with the flow on this one.
We love pictures to............... so soon as you can post some for us. If you have any questions just lets us know.

Welcome Nina,
first of all. if your tendency to rush is anything like mine, watch out for it when you are nearly finished something. I don't know how many times I've been sooooo patient doing a project only to ruin the overall effect by rushing the last part of the last step!
Hmm a character in that...

Nina, we are very glad that you have joined us here. This is awesome! So many new faces lately. Jump right in and start ta build'n.
I have made puppet in the past with yarn hair, but I really prefer fleece or wigs now. For me it is somewhat less time consuming that making the yard wig. I believe Billy has a great way of making the yard hair.
I see if I can come up with some pictures of the process I use and get back to you.
Are you wanting long hair, pony tails or short?
Julie

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I've only started making puppets a week ago, so I'm learning a lot.
Julie, I would like to know about long and short yarn hair. The way I made the girl puppet in my photos was to wrap it around a piece of cardboard with a slit cut out of the middle for sewing. I really just went by what I thought and it's crooked and not very securely attached. You've seen the homemade cabbage patch kids with the part and then pigtails on each side...I was wonder how to do that. Of course, any kind of help with any of it is appreciated...lol.
Thanks,
Nina
