Two new shadow puppets for sale! Posted by Na on Mar 09, 2009
I am now selling two new shadow puppets: a turtle and a merman. The merman matches my mermaid in design.

Na,
Awesome video shot....I like both the puppets. Action always
makes the puppets come alive & the movements are wonderful.
Worth all the effort!!! Thanks for sharing the video.

Nice work.....they will go quickly I am sure.
I like the materials you used to make the turtle. The details with the mermaid are amazing as well.

Thanks guys!
I think the turtle looks great - I just happened across some transparent paper that was perfect for it. It's hard to tell in the video, but the pattern I used has an eye cut out in the head, which matched up exactly to a circle of colour the same size on the paper.
As for the merman.... the details are nice, but this puppet gave me a headache. The first time I made it, the whole thing got stuck in my laminating machine. I took a few months to cool off and when it came to make it again, the same thing happened. It's hard to tell in the video and pictures, but I actually managed to save the puppet and re-laminate it. :P
Still, it all comes out in the wash...
I'm already working on an idea for my next shadow puppet, which thankfully is a lot less complicated.

I really love this. I've never seen shadow puppetry before coming to P&S, and I am so impressed by it. The puppets are certainly wonderful, but I also love your performance with them. You move them with such fluidity, they really look like they are underwater.

Thank you!
That's especially nice to hear for this particular video, becuase the turtle has four rods and the merman has two... it took me ages to film them together, it was tough to get them to look right, and I'm so glad it looks realistic
To think I've never done shadow puppet performance before ...

I love the music and the movement of the merman's tail is so hypnotic especially when you make him dive down. Great work! I'm starting to become a big fan of shadow puppetry now after seeing Richard Bradshaw perform this weekend. It is so amazing how much work and thought goes into this style of puppetry. I'm also a huge fan of no dialogue puppetry. Great video!!! You are an inspiration.

Thanks Nikole - I also got to see Richard's work last year, and I agree, after seeing that how could you not like shadow puppet

Oh that's right, you were lucky to be able to go to the UNIMA event in Perth. I so wish I could have been there. But I'm glad that I got to see him now that we are living so much closer to "Oz." :D
I'm excited for the UNIMA event in China 2012. It will be like it is in my back yard...ha ha ha.

Yeah, I'm so glad I went. Turns out the Bradshaw classes were more inspiring than I thought they would be. He really does some amazing stuff.
I'm going to have to save lots of money. China's closer to you than to me, but I hope I get to go!
