3M versus Elmer's spray adhesive Posted by CanuckAmok on Mar 26, 2009
I was browsing around Home Depot today (killing time waiting for my bus) when I decided to go look for some spray adhesive. I saw the can of 3M Super 77, something that it highly recommended and I see is used by many professionals. Sitting next to the 3M product, though, was a can of Elmer's Spray Adhesive. Reading the descriptions on the backs of both cans, they appear to be quite similar, they both claim to bond to fabric and foam. The main difference, though, was that the Elmer's product is 1/3 the price: $6 versus $17!

Has anyone used Elmer's? Can I save myself ten bucks and use that instead of Super 77?

I just bought the Elmer's Extra Strength and it works fine. So does the $3 stuff I bought year's ago.  I'd try the Elmer's.

Okay, thanks! I'll give it a shot. I'll buy the Elmer's and blow the extra ten bucks on ice cream.

I use 3M Foamfast 74, which I buy at Hancock Fabrics. It is the ONLY one that adheres foam to foam.
It's about $13 a can, but one can goes a long way. Plus I use coupons to buy it, so only pay half of that.  You can buy the same type of adhesive at an upholstery shop for less. The 74 is orange, what you get in the shops is usually clear.

I was at wal mart the other night and saw the big can of super 77 was under ten bucks.....home depot and others of the ilk love to charge premiums....for instance 6 2" foam brushes are $2.99 at jo ann fabrics you can get 20 for a buck more.....always comparative shop.....also look into sta-put its an industrial strength adhesive and pretty harmless.
