Cable Controlled Flamingos Posted by Out of the Box Puppets on Mar 31, 2009
I am working on four flamingos that will be about 4' tall.  They will be used in a children's theatre production of Alice in Wonderland.  These flamingo will be in the scene where Alice and the Queen's court play croquet. The flamingos will be standing beside the puppeteer who will then turn them upside down to play croquet.  The puppeteer will use a cable pull possibly located around the knee of the puppet to allow the flamingo to talk while they are upside down.  This is the process so far.........

Nice, it looks like you are useing 1" waist elastic as your resistance to keep the mouth closed.  Is that correct?

I think it is such a cool idea to make the flamingos able to talk. The mechanism looks very easy.

Actually the elastic is 3/8" wide about 1.25" long.  The bottom of the cable will be attached to a D-ring that is also attached to a 7/32" x 1 1/2" x .023 extenstion spring.  This seems to give it a nice smooth movement.  I'll be attaching more photos in the next couple of days.
