Fairly new here, and would like an opinion. Posted by nerfman42 on Apr 06, 2009
Hi, I have been on the forum for about 2 months now, and I really am amazed by the talent of the builders here. You are an inspiration.
I wanted to get an opinion on the Project Puppet Simple Series from all of you. I was contemplating buying one of these patterns, and wondered which one of the three would be the most versatile to start out with. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Nerfman

I am not a puppet maker - I am a performer - but I must say that I tried the Glorified Sock Puppet pattern yesterday for the first time and now I am HOOKED!  I just got back from the fabric store with bags of fur and fleece to try all kinds of puppet making combinations!  If you don't know where to start my suggestions would be the glorified sock puppet!  I will be posting pictures of some of my creations soon!!  HAVE FUN!!  And please post pictures!

I would recommend the Glorfied Sock Puppet.  After that go for the shape that you like best.  All of the simple series are designed for beginners so you should find the build fairly straight forward.

Don't forget to show us pictures of what you come up with.

I'm partial and had to have them all................. The glorified sock puppet was the first of the series so that is the one I first started with. It really depends what head shape you would like to work with.

I agree with Billy......I own all the series and they are all very similar to building except for the shape of the head.....It's like asking a child their favorite candy while standing in a candy shop......it depends on what you plan to make and the shape of head that most appeals to your vision of a puppet.

Best of luck......

I love the glorified sock puppet pattern.  As you can see, the puppet I'm holding in my picture is one of my creations from that pattern.  It is very easy and very versatile.  I really enjoy seeing the puppet's personality begin to emerge as they are being put together.  The little guy in my photo is Simon Sez, and he helps me "count numbers" when I'm doing a preschool show.  I've also created Sally Sez (who is Simon's sister), Willy the Bookworm, Abby K. Dabra (a magical rabbit), and Harry Thing (he's some sort of animal - I haven't figured it out yet).

I was going to suggest the glorified sock puppet as well. I tried it about to months ago, and the puppet that resulted was just fantastic. The pattern gave me some idea into how to make my own puppets better.

to P&S....as suggested by others you can
try the glorified sock puppet pattern as a starter...then
make puppets based on your own patterns. Please do
post your puppet pictures.
