Warning!!Puppet website closed and took my money!! Posted by Lorcos on Apr 08, 2009
Hi, I am new to this site and came on to worn everyone about Puppet Productions.com I ordered a $228.00 puppet over a month ago, paid for it and now the phone number is disconnected and I never got my puppet. The website is still up and running but e-mails are rejected. I warn you because anyone can still order from the site but you will never get your order. Maybe one good thing came out of this...I found your great forum. I do Dental Health shows for school age children with puppets and will hopefully get some new great ideas from you folks!! The puppet I ordered was one I was going to use as a Dentist. His eyes moved and he bliked...it was called a blinkers puppet...anyone know of any wheere else I can find one. Thanks Lorcos

Welcome and glad you signed up .....just so you know if you paid by a credit card you can call the credit card company and have the charges reversed......your credit cards have insurance for such occasion or if the items come damage and the place does not want to replace it. That is why you pay such high interest every month for this insurance, so no one should be out of money unless they paid by another method (e.g. cash, cheque, money orders).
They were the only company with the "Blinkers" name/style of eyes they owned the right to the name and style unless another company buys the rights to make them themselves. Other members may have a resource to buy similar puppets or you may have to ask a puppet builder to make a puppet with blinking eyes.
Sorry to hear about the inconvenience that you are going through......

Just thought I'd let people know: the site has been removed, with an 'out of business' sign replacing it. I'll add this message to the other threads too.

Welcome-there are some very good puppetmakers in this forum and a few of them do blinkers. Don't give up on your money yet because Puppet Productions was a very reliable company and they must have got hit hard by the economy.-Steve

Hi, I just found this website -- looks like a fun place. I posted this on another thread, but I'll add by 2cents here as well.
My husband and I placed an order in early March with Puppet Productions and just found out the other day that they had closed. We've contacted the credit card company to dispute the charge, but I'm so dissappointed that such a reputable company would close this way. From what I understand, it was a VERY sudden closure, but...still...you'd think a company with the kind of reputation they had would at least contact their customers with standing orders and try to make things right.
Anyway, on one hand, I'm sorry that others are in the same boat we're in, but on the other hand, I'm glad to know that we're not alone in this.

I am sure it was devastating for this company to go under......sometimes when companies go under the owner has no idea on how to pull up information on the computers to be able to call people, they heavily rely on dependable employees to have that knowledge.......it is a lot of work to close a company and say goodbye to many good freinds (employees) and know that you have failed these people and there families. I am not defending them I am just explaining that it is a hard time and they are as much in a mess as the next person.
Did you successfully dispute the charges?

I actually recently spoke with someone who worked closely in association with Puppet Productions for several years. She didn't give me many details (I wasn't really searching for "gossip" - I just knew this person had access to the same item I had ordered from Puppet Productions. She didn't -- they were her supplier for the product as well.), but she did say that it was a sudden closure, not much warning at all. And I have to imagine that they were probably closed down so quickly that they weren't able to retrieve their customer files. As a matter of fact, they must have closed down not long after we placed our order, and the customer service person that my husband spoke to did not give any indication that there was any problem - she only said that they would be moving into a new building soon.
I understand that just about everyone is dealing with financial difficulties in one form or another these days, but integrity should not be in shortage even if money is. And if something like this has happened to this company that has a good reputation, then it must have been way beyond their ability to control it with the integrity they would desire. I've just never had something like this happen before - where I've ordered something, paid for it, and then have the company all but dissappear with my money but me without my item. It's disappointing and it hurts, but life does go on.
We are awaiting our paperwork from the credit card company to get the dispute officially processed, but if they are not able to get any sort of confirmation from Puppet Productions that they shipped our order and we recieved it (which they certainly won't since the company is now closed down), it shouldn't be an issue for us to get the money credited back.
I'm looking forward to spending more time on this website - looks like a great resource!

Sounds like they may have closed due to owing back taxes. I once worked for a business that owed back Federal and State taxes. One day a big truck pulled up and all these federal agents came in and they took everything even the pictures on the wall and the register. The owner of the business bought much of the stuff back at a public auction later that month. Our customers were left high and dry until the owner could reorganize and reopen under a different name.
