Obese and Round-Head Puppets Posted by Uncle_Arthur on Apr 18, 2009
Are there any puppet patterns available for an obese puppet? I'm looking to make a muppet-style puppet with a nub of a chin, and a "tire" of a second chin.
Also, is there a pattern available that resembles this muppet: Hardhead Henry? I'm not looking to recreate this character, but this muppet has the round head and "frown" that I'm looking for. If not a pattern, is there a generic kit for this type of puppet for sale?

Okay...
Since there's been well over 100 people who have glanced at this thread, there must be some interest in the subject. I'm going to try and figure this out myself this weekend, then post the results for those interested.

Some how this by passed me I am not aware of any patterns that are designed and deemed " obese ". This would require a custom build by carving from a block of foam or building up from a existing pattern. I really recommend the Dr. Puppet Tutorials. In his tutorial he shows how to build up features like noses and chins by adding foam and carving it into the desired shape.

What about using The Foam Book? It doesn't come with patterns, but there's all sorts of information in there about making any kind of character: they even discuss how to make large features, like a spare tire stomach.
Other than that, I agree, I haven't seen any patterns that would suit 'obese'.

Billy is right you can carve it or pattern it but you would have to build up the "tire" rolls making shre you don't restrict movement. that could be an intresting tutorial to make.

Add that to your list Doc.

It looks to me like the Hardhead Henry puppet has a slightly oblong round head. This combined with the frowning angle of the mouth gives it the obese look. I think I'll make a grumpy bug to go with my bug menagerie. when I do I'll share the pattern.
