flexibel mouthplate ?! Posted by gompie on Apr 25, 2009
This morning I was watching the telly with my kids. We were looking to Bol and smik a dutch program(Belgium production) . Bol is the purple doll an smik the orange one It looks like they have a flexible mouthplate and a foamhead. Not the same as Kermit, a sock puppet. It looks like they made a foam head and make a cover and sew there a mouthplate in and covered the head with it. may some foam in the mouth too. I like this kind of mouth. I'm finally make a puppet now so all the puppet programs are watched a little different now.
What are you thinking of it. I have a link scroll to the end of the page and there is a promotion film. It is in dutch but you don't need the language.

I think you are correct in your ideas.  The puppet is like Kermit or the sock puppet pattern from Project Puppet.  The pattern is just a bit different for the top of the head.  I think you are right that there is a foam skull for the top of the head. It could be just a thin liner of foam on the fabric.  The mouth plate could have a thin layer of foam also just to give it some body.

I agree with Shawn and glad that you shared them with us......they look like some fun characters......I wish I could also understand them a little more.

Ah, its "Big and Small". My daughter and I watch them often on the "Tree house" channel. They are pretty funny.

Small is thin foam covered with fleece and has a leather mouthplate.

I found more information on this show at the TreeHouse TV Page.  There is also a related artical on the puppeteers themselves titled: T.O. puppeteers compared to Jim Henson... I think the T.O stands for Taronto Ontario.... I had thought it meant 2 at first as in "the two of them".

They also have some video of the show but for some reason they don't like where I live.   It just keeps saying "This content is currently unavalialble." with the note: "You are not in a geographical region that has access to this content.".  I knew that Canadians didn't always care for Americans but wow.

Hey Shawn we Canadians can't get many video's from you American's....this was some payback. LOL

I thought the characters look familiar but then I see so much on the net that I thought I might had seen it in my past.  Yes it is a Canadian made show from Toronto.  We do pretty good kids television in Canada as well as adult puppet shows.  I don't watch the Treehouse Channel as much as I should to see any new shows....I find it hard to sit through infant shows. LOL

We only watch treehouse tv here at home since my toddler is at the perfect age and the content is more than appropriate for her. No violence and unecessary add's. A real breeze for a mom like me. And I love watching these show's with my daughter as they create much discussion between the both of us :D
