hand sewing help Posted by shahryar on Apr 26, 2009
my exams at usf are finally over so i can finally start working on my first puppet,
but i coukd use som hand sewing advice. i notice on the project puppet sites about whipstitch and locking whipstitch.
is whipstitch good enough because when i do locking on the test peices i made the thread pulls tight before i can finish so i have to cut the thread and start again from where it leaves off, im very new to sewing haha
sorry about bad grammer doing this on my cellphone at work.
Thanks for the help

You should be fine with a whip stitch to start with. Just be patient.

Get some sewing wax/candle and run your thread over it this will prevent it from tangling and knotting.

Before I started with my first puppet I never sewed --- ok, once maybe sewed a button on, hehe (don't ask...) so I had to learn how to do it from a very beginning and started with double gathering/ladder? stitch. I sewed my first puppet after one day of training at sewing. That puppet was stitched with baseball and dg/ladder stitch. I hadn't any bigger problems with them so if you would like you can start with those ones too.

Hey if you catch me in my studio on Blogtv working.....I am currently sewing fabric using the henson stitch (ladder stitch) while talking to people......Should joined me and other people dropped. I won't be on tonight but might be tomorrow (Tuesday) and I can give you a quick demo. I wish I new what time but I just plop it on when I feel like it until my show comes on this Thursday night. You will need to make an account (it's guick and free) to talk to me through text I won't allow guests since they become rude.

Yes, we have had to boot quite a few of them. Well we suspect it was always the same guy that would come under different names. After a while we just decided that only members with an account could come. After that, we were able to really enjoy and talk and learn at the same time.

Not at all Jay...just rub it over a candle to just cover the thread and off you go to sew.
