Yes Steve thanks for the feedback and glad that you enjoyed it.....I did cut out the chatter any questions that came up I ask and it is answered.  Yes the patter that night got pretty rude so I choose not to include it.....probably for the future as well if this keeps up.  Most of the time we did not type for the workshop only Newbies who came in were talking and it was just babel.

The others were kept on due to appropriateness and some of the comments and suggestions were kept on for future reference.  This time they did not have to be due to the way we set it up and working around the rudeness.

Thanks

One questioncan you re work the paperclay if you want to redesign something? Eg. If you wanted to re work a feature, say the nose, can you wet it enough to re work/remove it? or is it a matter of cutting/sanding it off to rebuild it?

Once the Paperclay has dried you have to sand or cut it off if you want to change it.  You do have some leeway while you are working with it where you can re-wet it and change things. It is drying from the outside in so it gets a skin fairly quick.  I was looking at the times on the video's and I took about a total of 40+ mins in my demo and I would say a good 30 mins of that time was spent working with the Paperclay.  I could have re-wet and re-worked about any section during that time but the top of the head had started drying... that is why it was getting the small cracks I pointed out.

Shawn, thanks for such a comprehensive answer, another question now...
You may be going to do this in another webcast but do you have to seal the paper clay before you paint it? Is it porous? Does it need shelac or gesso primer or can you right ahead and paint it with what ever you want straight away?
Re: Live Tonight (Wed) at BlogTV....... Posted by Shawn on May 08, 2009
I will cover that in another tutorial either on Daryl's channel or my own at a later date but to answer your question, you do have to seal the Paperclay. I use gesso to seal it.  I first do a rough sanding of the face and then about three layers of gesso letting them dry for about 30 mins in between and sanding each layer before applying the next layer.  Fine grit sandpaper, to answer your next question.

Thank you Shawn for all the information. Your video on Daryl's last workshop has started a few ideas in my head. But I will wait to have all the basic information I need before starting. Cant wait for the next part of this workshop (on Daryl's or on your blogTV in a later date).

Naomi, Great work on the lego city.

Thanks! I hope you all enjoyed it

@Daryl, I'm going to prepare myself to do a shadow puppet workshop. Obviously the next workshop is out, so just let me know when you can fit me on the show again and I'll schedule myself to be ready for it. I'll be offering up a free shadow puppet pattern, so we could definitely do a build-along if people are willing and/or interested. I think it would take about an hour to do.
