Hey there, fellow puppet-makers/puppeteers! Posted by trekkiemonster on May 13, 2009
My name is Mats and I'm from Sweden.
I've loved the Muppets since I was a kid and seen the famed musical Avenue Q, so I'm quite familiar with puppetry.
So far I'm almost done with my first real puppet and more are planned to be done. In fact, I make puppets for my project which is a pilot-episode for a tv-series which I intend to sell to a TV-station. It's an adult show which parodies with the Muppet Show and have elements from South Park, the Nintendo 64 game Conker's Bad Fur Day, Avenue Q and other sources. In other words violent, suggestive, rude and contains among many things profanity and toilet-humor.
So far it's only myself but I intend to round up my buddies to be the puppeteers and help me shoot it. I've so far asked two of them who said they're intrested.
The inspiration for the project came when I listened on the radio at my last job hearing a teaser for Avenue Q when it was going to be released in Sweden back at 2007. At hearing it I thought it was funny and unique with a puppet show that was adult in contrast to Sesame Street and the Muppet Show. At the time had not much of a clue how the setup was going to for Avenue Q so I thought it was going to be South Park esque and then it hit me to make a tv-show that was an adult version of the Muppet Show. At the time I didn't intend to make a pilot but wait with the project until I was going to have succeed in the show business. That changed with the idea of making a pilot with my buddies in order to get myself into show business. So I've started with making the first puppet for almost a year ago with little clue on how to make them except for vague info that the muppets were created by foamrubber and fleece. Later I found Paul Louis' "how to make puppets" video series on You Tube and it really learned me how to create puppets much more easier and did help for the puppet that I'm currently working on. For future puppets I'm intending to use that method rather the one I'm doing now.
So here I am, ready to learn more of puppet-making to improve my skills and add things to my pilot.
See ya!
