Giant round-head puppet pattern Posted by nynah on May 16, 2009
I downloaded the round head pattern Billy has in his picture gallery and it was small when I printed it. Well, I had some errands to run this morning so I dropped it off at Staples and told the boy I wanted it four times bigger....he said the copier had to warm up so I went and ran my errands and when I got back this is what he had...LOL. He thought I said 400 times bigger!! So now I have a giant pattern...I did get the right size after I explained it again tho. But I thought this was too funny not to share.

I think that Billy is correct.  You should be able to use the pattern as a base to make mascot heads!  I would think that you would need to use a denser foam like EVA and maybe 1" thick unless you added some type of internal support.

I hope they did not charge you for their mistake.

That they have so big machines the can get 400 times bigger out on paper

Billy, I thought of that but the chances I'll ever do that are slim. But that's what made me go ahead and keep the enlargement....just in case!

Shawn, I told him I'd keep it after I asked how much it would be (just a few dollars) because I wanted it for a conversation piece...lol.

Gompie, he just used a BIG copy machine, which I don't know much about at all.

I have had some funny stories as well at the local photocopy places I attend

But this one takes the cake.....thanks for sharing....BTW you never know when you need to make a parade puppet in the future so tuck it away for that time.

Thats funny I actualy did the same thing with the pattern.  I have a puppet I wanted to make but wasn't sure if the head was the right shape.  So like you I made it bigger.  The head though was not the shape I was looking for.  I had to actually make that shape I was looking for myself on that one.  One thing though I wanted to tell you on that head.  If you glue the mouth together and flip it so the top of the head is the face area you have a great yet odd shapped head.  It's something you should see.  I just finished my alien puppet with that shape.  I'll post it when I get a picture taken of it.

ha ha, nice history.

To resize your patterns, you can use a program called proposter. It will resize your images, printing in several sheets that you can glue to obtain the bigger pattern. There is an evaluation version, free for download, which writes the legend "evaluation version" or something similar in every sheet, but usually it is not a problem to use the pattern.

gav, I'd like to see the picture when you get it taken.

Jorge, I'm going to check this out. It turns out the enlargement still isn't as big as I wanted. But not a total loss, just a smaller puppet.
