Shadow puppets tutorial LIVE Tonight...... Posted by Na on Jun 02, 2009
Live on Stiqman's blogTV workshop, 11th June

http://www.blogtv.com/People/StiqpuppetsLive

I'll be doing a shadow puppet tutorial on Daryl's video workshop; I will have a pattern available on the day (a dog), so people are welcome to join in if they like! If you do, here's a list of materials you'll need:

  • Black cardboard - two sheets of A4 (letter) sizes
  • Pencil
  • Scissors and/or box cutter and/or scalpel
  • Paper brads - small sizes work best. For those who don't know what they look like, this should help: http://www.finishingtouchideas.com.au/ftiwholesale/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4_52&zenid=96503d4e66d58cbeff43d29a1f02d86c
  • Masking tape
  • Two skewers and a pair of pliers - I'll be showing more traditional rods, but won't have time to show you how to make them in this workshop, so skewers will be exchanged for normal rods
  • Optional, sandpaper
  • Optional, some cellophane or coloured plastic film

Na

Thank you for the tutorial. You were as professional as always and the tut was easy to follow along. You made it to look so simple. I did notice how you used your beautiful nails as guide when cutting the cardboard. I may have to use a thimble.

Great Job!

My nails were a guide? (Scratching head)

Ok... I must do that subconsciously. I've been growing them long for more than a decade now, so I don't even notice what I do with them.

Thanks for the feedback! I think the best thing about shadow puppets is that they're easy to explain

First I was trying to compliment you nails...second you work so fast that I noticed as you were holding the cardboard down and cutting the pattern your nail served as a guard you might say to prevent you from cutting the tips of your fingers. I thought that was pretty cool. I know you did not grow them for that purpose but the do come in handy.

I know you were complimenting me. I'm just confused, cause I have no idea what you're talking about - again, it's just subconscious to me.

I do actually have a tendency when I'm not paying attention to cutting into my fingernails (the tips, not near the finger). They also prevent me from gluing my fingers when hot gluing
