full body, half body or glove? Posted by liverlipsyyz on Jun 04, 2009
hi!  i'm looking to purchase some start-up puppets (i plan on doing kids' birthday parties).  i'm looking for a recommendation if i should purchase full body puppets, half body, or glove puppets?  i plan on using this stage:  http://www.puppets4u.com/portable_puppet_stage.html

i suppose i'll be doing scripts such as popular children's books/stories, aesop's fables, that type of stuff.

thanks for any help!

If I were going to invest my money in these puppets I would Buy full body puppets with removable legs. It is always good to have one full body with glove hands for story telling but is not necessary since it requires two puppeteers to operate it. I would start out with just the basics and add to your collection.

Start planning some scripts ...................... You could start With one main character. There are plenty of builders here at P&S. Have you thought about having a couple of custom made puppets to be your main characters and then add to them as your story line grows.

I've always been a big fan of full body puppets, but as Fuller pointed out they do require the assistance of an additional puppeteer. Also if your going to do story type scripts, and if there is just the two of you as puppeteers, you will need the other person to perform other puppet characters. My suggestion start off with glove puppets and work your way up.But working with full body puppets can be a rewarding experience if there is more than two puppeteers working together034
