Petey Pickpocket Posted by dpatters28 on Jun 27, 2009
I decided to attempt making a puppet using a pattern, so I went on Project Puppet and downloaded the pinhead puppet pattern. After several failed tries (the first time I basically sewed the first head piece to itself and had half a head.. whoops), I was finally successful in creating a cute little character. Originally conceived as an iguana, an accident when sewing the hands gave my character one red palm. That is when I decided my character would be a very poor thief who had been caught redheaded so many times his one hand is now permanently red! Then, after turning one of my old blue t-shirts into his shirt, I discovered his new outfit looked a bit like prison garbs so I decided he would be an escaped prison convict who is now making it his mission to amend his past wrongs. His name was going to be Petty Pickpocket, but Petty sounded a little too feminine to me, so I re-named him Petey! Now, without further ado... here is Petey! I downloaded the roly poly puppet head as well, so I may give Petey a female companion when I have my 4 day vacation next week.

What a great background story for your character! I love that you turned "mistakes" into a positive thing. Good job.

I really like the puppet. The uneven eyebrows give Petey some special character.
I love the story, and he way the story has developed the puppet, and the puppet developed the story. I believe that when the puppets and their characters synthesize like that, you can't help but do a great job in performance.
I look forward to seeing his female companion!

Looks good! Making mistakes into something "on purpose" is the best way to do things! Thanks for sharing!
