I'm not sure how Sue did it but I've used the concept in the past. The "pages" where made out of foamcore (could be heavy cardboard) that had the scenes painted on them. You need to glue strips of fabric to the foamcore to make the binding or spine of the book. This over sized book can then be set on a easel or you could build a frame to hold it.

I used 4' x 8' sheets of rigid insulation, 1/2 inch, not regular styrofoam, but the stuff with a rough coating on each side. Cut to 4' x 30", hinge the 30" ends together, use gaffers tape, as many as you need to make the scenes you want. Prime with white latex paint, draw your scenes on each page, then paint with latex or acrylic paints. Hang from your backdrop with hooks attached to the back of the "book. I held mine to each other with dots of Velcro at the bottom corner of each page. I had a living room scene, farm scene, black pages(for blacklight song), and a castle scene. You have to make the stage a little narrower than the book to support the sides of the book or else the bottom will swing to behind vertical. You can use this with or without a backdrop curtain.
Change scenes by turning a page. Just make sure there are no puppets or other scenery in the way when you turn a page as you need 4' of clearance.
Hope this makes sense to you.

@Shawn Oh thanks sharing that. I think I'll definitely have to try this out for my current project.
@Sue So these sheets are slightly different from the regular foam insulation sheets? This sounds like something very cost-efficient [compared to canvas/duck cloth] So, did you hinge each page to the other with gaffers tape and paint over it? And did you also use the insulation as the "base" or "back" part of the book?
This makes sense to me right now but if I do have another question I'll be sure to ask you. Awesome idea and definitely plan to use it! Thanks Sue! =D

Yes I used gaffers to hinge the book and painted over it. I used the insulation for the entire book. It was lightweight and sturdy.
I said I cut the insulation at 30 inches, but I think I cut it at 24 inches to get more pieces from the 4x8 sheet.
If you have questions I am available to answer if I can.
