ideas for an eyebrow mechanism? Posted by fuzziwig on Jul 13, 2009
Hey guys,

So I'm stumped. I'm building a puppet right now that I would like to have his eyebrows move, but I can't seem to build the right contraption to do so. Think ventriloquist brows on a muppet. There are a lot of great links to blinking eyelids, but I can't seem to find any help with eyebrows. The head is a soft foam structure, with a firm mouthplate which is pretty standard and I can't figure out what sort of structure or frame to build to support a simple mechanism that moves the brows together.

The problem I'm running into is anything I build with wire and springs or elastic is displacing the foam, and not really moving the eyebrows. I have read up on vent dummy's and their brows are firmly affixed to the plaster or wood skull, but I'm working with soft foam. I would like the two eyebrows to raise and lower at the same time, but do not want any fishing line or large vents visible from the exterior. Has anyone built something similar they would be kind enough to share their thoughts or ideas? Thanks for any help you may be able to offer!

Sam

May I recommend Jay's ( Dr.Puppet ) tutorial videos. Basic moving eyebrows and the Blinking eye tutorial. These are only $5.35 each and he emails them to you. I have them all and they are great tutorials.
