saying HI again Posted by BiZcut on Jul 23, 2009
its been a long while since i have stoped by here but figured i would stop by here and say hi again as my frist stop on trying to get into puppetry a bit more. i have beentalking to several people about it and want to get into this a bit deeper but i am woefuly comming up short on finding people that are involved. i did a search on puppetry in my area and only found a couple of people ( who are wht appear to be professonals) in my area (Kansas city, MO actualy east of KC a bit). if anyone on here is in that area i would love to get together and explore this new fascination. i have been wanting to do some local puppet shows for the kids in my neighborhood as an experiment to see if i would like to go further but have constantly run up aginst a wall of only being one person. i have tried talking to my church to see if others have expressed a interest but got hannded a application and told it would be great to have you help with the pre k ministry. so getting around some others that are either currently doing puppetry or would want to do puppetry and having the same issues would be great.
i have looked hard on you tube but unfortunatly that is not much in the way of "good" puppetry material on there aside from things like "cops v firemen" "puppet up" and of course the "how to build a muppet puppet". i have come across a few others on you tube but cant recall there titlles the vast majority bi have come across have either beenvery bad jokes or too adult for me to consider (example sock puppet adult material).
it looks like i am starting to ramble so i will leave it at this. any help would be great. and thanks for just saying hi.
oh PS i have added some arms to my very first puppet and it has completely changed the look and feel of it. do any of you feel the same when you make small addititions or changes to your puppets?

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff. I certainly hope you can find some other people interested in joining you! I know that at my church puppets are finally considered an important part of the ministry but finding people to help is sometimes difficult! People still look at us as strange! All I can say is be persistent!! Once you get established people will see the value! You should check into attending a conference sponsored by One Way Street. I know that have them in Kansas City. Just go to www.onewaystreet.com

BiZcut,
I live in KCMO. How far east of KC do you live? In town there is StoneLion Puppet Theatre, Paul Mesner Puppets and Clement McCrae Puppet Shows as the major puppet companies. There are actually a couple others but those are the ones with websites. Heather of StoneLion Puppet Theatre is very nice and often looking for new puppeteers who can train with her for show. You might want to give her a call. You can say I sent you. You also have available to you The Puppetry Guild of Greater Kansas City which is a regional guild of Puppeteers of America. There is also the PAI located in Independence. So you see there is quite a bit of puppetry going on in this area.
