Good day to you all , New to puppets! Posted by Frogulon on Jul 23, 2009
Good afternoon!!
I'm Drew and i've JUST started getting into puppets , been a life long fan of jim henson and i decided i'd like to take some moving mouth puppets into a camera setting , Am currently working on my first puppet - using paul lewis' guides to help me through , hope to have some imaginative characters soon , i've been drawing cartoon characters for years and this seems like a natural evolution of ideas:)
I will post whAt i have created.... I have been having trouble getting some materials i need here in aust , the only foam place near me has closed down! Yay
So i'm having to experiment atm to see what else i can use....
Any ideas?
I'm trying Teddy Guts first , until i find foam...
I'm hoping this will hold the head up if i pack it good enough..

You can find foam in craft, hobby and sewing stores here in USA.  Any of those around you?  Also don't forget to think about what around the house had foam inside of it.   You may have to buy something like a pillow or a workout mattress and then scavage the foam from it.

Thanks guys , I've made something since posting a few hours ago , It's quite crude at the moment as this is my very first puppet...

hisname is 'Fizz' - A Foul talking movie reviewer with a slight tick

I won't go on , it involves a lot of profanity from here:)

As i said - Very first puppet...Hope to do a better job on the next one...have some nicer purple fleece..
Oh and i used the teddy bear guts for the head ...i also messed up one hand bigtime , but my freehand pattern will be improved for the next go!

Also - I've found some really sticky self adhesive black phelt in a 2 dollar shop close by , I found it was a little hard to get off your fingers but sticks to cardboard/plastic really well.

The swirly eye will probably be a common thing with me , i usually draw whacked out cartoons:)
Expect to see 3d cartoon characters , heh.
 ok onto my new puppet....

This is "Carlin" (Named after the late great george) - A movie critic , He is generally quite annoyed by most things , that is until he has his pipe , Then he's really quite agreeable and will watch and review any old crap.
