Fleecing Posted by RichVStone on Jul 29, 2009
When you guys put the fleece around the mouth ... do you do which of the following.

1. Put the inside felt of the mouth down first then glue the fleece on that
2. Put the fleece and then the felt on top
3. some other method?

Any help is appreciated.

I have always lined the inside of the mouth first and then attached the fleece on top.

What do you guys use to dye the antron fleece?
Re: Fleecing Posted by Matt on Jul 30, 2009
Antron fleece will take RIT dye very well.

i mainly put the mouth fabric/foam down first and then attatch the fleece on, but in the past i have also attatched the fleece onto the mouth board and then put the felt/foam in depending on what the puppet will be used for and what look i want to give, one of the only reasons i would put the fleece on first is to make the face stronger (as you are effectively putting alot of strain on the mouth area and if the fleece is simply glued to a flimsy bit of felt then it might not hold as well) but as i said, i mainly attatch the mouth lining first. i have used RIT dye for antron, and have had good results using peach colour, a colour called english tea (although im not sure if it is one that is sold anymore) and i have had some great results from mixing small quantities of various colours to produce good skin tones, although i think you might have to do some experimentation of your own!! hope this helps.

Neither. I sew the mouth into the head and the glue it to the mouth board. I do not like the raw edges from gluing it rather than sewing.

I always do number 2. It gives the mouth a much cleaner look that way rather than putting the fleece than felt. The felt helps cover up some of the wrinkles you might get and gives it a smoother jaw.
