Tubes Posted by RichVStone on Jul 29, 2009
I've been reading through the forums and see a lot of talk about tubes. What are these tubes you speak of and where do you get them? :D

They may be finger tubes that are attached to a mouthplate for a more secure hold.  You can make them out of polyfoam--glue a piece into a cylinder into which you can slip your fingers easily and then glue the cut-up cylinders to the top (and sometimes the bottom for the thumb) of the mouthplate...

I usually just do a strap-like cylinder for my middle and ring finger to slip into and let my other fingers rest on the outside of the strap..

We discuss tubes of all shapes and sizes used in puppetry. Another tube used in puppetry is pool tubes, those styro foam noodles used around summertime as a flotation device.

Don't forget PVC tubes that folks build lightweight puppet theaters out of.   As you can see, tubes are used everywhere in puppetry!
