Once was lost but now I'm found Posted by Nikole H. on Aug 06, 2009
So I'm back into puppetry in full swing now.  It was a long vacation for me.  I think it has been over a year now since I last performed.  I'm building a new tiny puppet theater and changed my preferred medium to paper.  I'm calling myself Paper Puppet Theater.  I'm really excited because my husband and I started to look at locations to open a children's theater.  I found a few promising districts that are artsy and fun but I'm kind of liking the idea of turning an old church into a small theater.  I saw one done in Hawaii where I am from and it was great.  I found one cute church that was turned into a museum here in Singapore.  So now I am working on scripts and finishing up with one show to perform for my son's class.  I'll still do the traveling theater until I find that perfect location.  When I do find that perfect location, I'll also rent out the space to other traveling theaters/puppeteers.  Anyone want to travel to Singapore? :D

Nice to know you're back into theater! I know the feeling of not performing for awhile, I took a 6 month break from pretty much anything puppet-related but when opportunity knocks you can't help but follow. Best of luck on your new theater and project!

Awesome, well as you saw Nikole, once we have the puppet bug, it never leaves us. We may take a break for a few months, or even a year, but it always comes back and bite us badly. Glad to see you and see that I am not the only one that was gone for a year.

Keep us up to date!

Thanks for letting us know what you are up to!  My husband and I had dreams of converting an old church into a theatre as well.  But then the building sold and was torn down - oh well.  The time was not right for us but maybe I can just enjoy your dream as you pursue it!  Keep us posted!!

Wow, this is great news - totally jealous of you having your own theatre! I'll have to save some money and take a trip to my neighbouring country!

ABSOLUTELY!!!  All are invited to come over and perform in my theater.  I'm still looking around for a perfect place.  I'm not going to turn a perfect opportunity down.  I'm even considering a shop house that is a shop on the bottom and a house on top for us to live.  Our lease on our condo is up next October.  I'm in dire need of a bigger place with all the puppets taking over.  I guess though that once I have my puppet theater, I won't have to work at home anymore....weird.  Would be nice to be able to leave the puppets and not have them staring at me to finish them all day and night.  I'll definitely have to set hours for myself once I get a permanent place.  Today I am working on a miniature shadow puppet screen for my Strega Nona story.  I thought it would be fun to incorporate shadow puppetry with this.  I'll try to take some progress pictures while I'm working today.  Wish me luck....it's been so long since I dusted my exacto knife off.
