Thanks Chris, Billy, Miguel, Archangel, Wiser's Mom and L.J, for the warm welcome.
Here's a little about me....
I live on a island in the caribbean, Barbados... really small and very warm and picturesque.
I was born and raised however, in the UK, and lived there most of my life. I have 3 sons, 15, 19, 23.
Primarily I'm a website designer, but craft-wise I make cloth dolls that depict the caribbean (Rose Cottage Dolls) which I'm currently selling in a shop near Bridgetown, I have an Etsy shop too.
I've just recently discovered that I love puppets and how they are created. I think that maybe puppets and dolls are very similar, though I'm finding that making puppets might be a lot less time consuming.
What I'm hoping to do when I get more experienced in this type craft is make my own designs, sell puppets, have a puppet show with a stage I will learn to build, and eventually run workshops to train other people in puppetry (performance and creation). I know it sounds ambitious but that's where I am right now in my life, I am finding out that I can do things if I put my mind to it.
Having said that, I'm only just starting out with making puppets, so far I have a head, (it has no skin), the head pattern I found online didn't have a mouthplate so I had to make my own. His name is Mr. Harmon, (see below) because he looks a lot like a caretaker from when I was at primary school. I still have to put hair on him. The next mock up I do will have skin and depending on how good, or bad, it comes out I will go on to make the body.
The challenges I have is that here in the caribbean there is no fleece to be found, so it looks like I'll have to ship some in at some point.
This is quite exciting to me, I'm so looking forward to learning and creating.
Thanks again for the welcome guys

What a great start! Mr. Harmon looks wonderful. I suppose fleece would be a very rare commodity with a climate like that in Barbados. Keeping warm isn't exactly a problem, is it?
I think your aims are wonderful. Of course, around here you will find a group very positive and sympathetic toward your aims. I have begun making a few stuffed animals in order to improve my puppet-making. They are certainly very related tasks. Glad to meet you, and I hope to hear lots from you.
