Hey Billy, thank you for your kind compliments, it's nice to be here, I'm learning and getting help with so much.

I finished Mr. Harmon, I got some good ideas re arm rods, to complete this puppet, I think I was a little to far gone with this one to implement the one I liked best, so I just used a very basic velcro square or two. I must admit I've had the best time creating this my very first puppet. I will now go on to finish Camille.

As you can see with the arm rod... it's very simple, I'm not sure how long it will stay connected tho. Another problem with it is that the felt I used for the jacket just loves the velcro too. Anyway, Mr. Harmon isn't going anywhere, I always keep my first creations.

He's a remarkable start!
Re: using two arm rods or one and fishing line under the chin...
I've done the string thing for a friend who wasn't really a puppeteer but wanted a particular puppet but my own puppets are double arm rods. In terms of using two rods it can be daunting for a while (it helps to experiment with the weight of the handles on the end of the rod) but I wanted to share this link that helped me a LOT!

These are well shot, clear videos. The crossed rods concept is enough to make this worthwhile alone, and it's free!
Enjoy!

Thanks Steve, I will check out that link today.

I'm having a bit of a problem with Camille's neck, do I taper the tube from the chin toward the back gradually, or do I just come straight down. When I look at other ppl's puppets I can never see what they do. The pattern I have for the head is just that, for the head only, so I'm not sure what to do. For Mr. Harmon I put him in a turtleneck sweater, lol. Any suggestions?
Re: Skin for next puppet mock up Posted by Shawn on Aug 21, 2009
Just come straight down.  I think maybe I understand what you are concerned with but I think it is because your neck is not long enough.  You know how folks talk about the neck being so long until you put it on?  That is because you need that extra fabric so you can move the head up and down. It also looks like maybe your neck is made of felt which has very little stretch.  Use a stretch material and it works better.

Hi Shawn, I'm wondering if you are mixing up Camille with Mr. Harmon... anyway here's what I did, but I'm thinking that yes I should have come straight down because it has to meet with the torso right. It's just that the opening at the base of the head is quite big, so it's making me second guess what I have to do.

I'm thinking that I have to redo it coming straight down, I'll make the torso first probably??

Hi Rosie,

Greetings from India.

Your puppet looks wonderful with nice expression.
Did you try fixing removable legs that can be fixed
whenever you require using Velcro?

I like the finished shape. Did you use any available
template??..sorry I have come back to P&S after a
short break. so missed all the thread.

Hope to see your finished puppet picture soon.

Hello Bhanu, nice to meet you.
I actually read up on the velcro legs and plan on using it in the future.
I used a ball head pattern that's floating around the internet, I had to improvise and make my own mouthplate, I love making mouthplates.
Yes, I will post pictures of Camille when she is finished. I'm looking forward to make her clothes this weekend.
