Ahhh.... Ok now I get it! Yes you want to come straight down. The neck is a simple tube the same size on top as on bottom.

Gotcha, Shawn, thanks.

Crazy week for me! I've at least ordered some supplies for puppet making, can't wait to get them.
Anyhoo, this is a far as I've got with Camille, I tried to make some 'skin gloves' to cover her foam hands... disaster!! Scrapped that idea and plan to buy some cream felt and stitch them onto her hands.
I made a quick PVC stand too, which I'm very happy with (see below). I plan on spray painting them. Really inexpensive way to display.
I actually hot glued the edge of this to the foam.
I think with the next one I make with fleece I'm gonna have to come straight down past the chin.
Before her arms are attached.
With her arms on and with my new pvc stand I made.
Deciding on her suit I'll be making.
Almost there folks!

my first puppet didn't look as nearly as good. It was supposed to be a girl puppet but my brother said it looked like a drag queen. Keep up the good work Rosie. It's been a blast to see your GREAT progress!!!!

Thanks Daryl
Drag queen, that's pretty funny!
I should finish her today, after I pick up some supplies from the fabric store. I just have to finish her jacket and add some earrings maybe.
My next project will be some kind of cartoonish animal, I'm expecting some red shag pile fabric in the mail, but I want to test one out before that comes, so I can make all my mistakes on something that didn't cost much.

I like the idea that early on......... you are already developing your own style of building puppets. Just like your dolls stand out from others so will your puppets. Keep up the good work and Please keep sharing.

Rosie, you have done a fantastic job. Here costume is looking great!
May I ask why it was a disaster? That should have worked for you and I am not sure I understand why using cream felt would be different. Was it the process of stitching the fingers and then turning the fabric perhaps? This can catch folks up I know. In the space between you fingers you almost need a "U" instead of a "V". It is not really even a rounded "U" but a squared off one. Man I wish the forum had a chalk board so I could draw a quick picture for you. You often have to clip the at the base of the fingers between them to get the fabric to turn right.

Hi Shawn, yes I know what you mean... I did see pictures of the exaggerated U shape between the fingers. Turning the fabric was no problem but gauging the size of the 'glove' was the problem, I also made the mistake of thinking that because I was using stretch fabric it would have some give, and then I thought... 'how the heck can I get the 'glove' on anyway, as it seems to hold on to the foam and not let go. I then figured that it would be easier to sew the felt straight on to the hands.
I've seen some ppl just make the hands separate and stuff them with fiberfill, then do the arm with foam and attach the two together, that's another possibility I'm pondering. Or maybe life will be easy with fleece... when it comes.

Thank you, Billy. I have a lot of questions, this is a good place to get answers as I get going with this puppet making. I really enjoy this and I have so many ideas and things I'd like to make.
