Russian Pop-Culture Character Hand Puppet Posted by Chris Arveson on Aug 17, 2009
cheburashkaThis little guy just arrived in the mail. He's the title character of a Soviet era animated series named Cheburashka. It's a very sweet, gentle series. I have looked for puppets the last couple years on my trips to Moscow, to no avail, so I gave in and bought this little hand puppet through Amazon.com.

The YouTube is a subtitled version of the first episode of the series.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I really enjoy the series. The time and energy put into stop-motion animation just amazes me.

Does "Cheburashka" mean anything in Russian?

Not according to babelfish. In case it was a diminutive of Chebur or Chebura I checked them as well, and came up dry. My Russian-English dictionary on dead tree is at the office, so I'll research it a little further tomorrow.
