The opening credits are stop animation I think but the actual show is Bunraku style puppets.

Yes, the puppetry was bunraku style.
Disappointing that they didn't use flat black paint or gaffers tape on the sticks for the arms. You could see the sticks reflect at times. Didn't like the content, but nice performance.
