Good job.  Very well done first puppets.  I would definitely recommend experimenting with eyes other that googly eyes.  once you get the hand of the eyes you won't want googly eyes again.

I can relate to your story. I started a video puppet ministry at my church. I started with store purchased puppets, but found that making them myself helped me to define their character. The kids love them. Just remember that the younger kids like consistency and lots of repeating. If you come up with scripts of your own, keep it simple and repeat yourself on the key points. As for the puppets, great job! I have toyed with purchasing the glorified sock puppet myself, but gave into modifying the old 1969 women's day magazine version. Keep it up.

As everyone has said, I like both of them! I too don't like the googly eyes so much, but they actually look cute on this little guy =] Keep up the good work!
