one of my favourite things to see is great planning in advance , so i just love that you have it all planned out already, and the pictures look fantastic . its always great to have the finished product in your head before the real thing starts to take shape and i love to see a puppet in its process, something which i constantly mean to record, but never remember to do !!! i will definatly be watching and sharing in the journey.
brilliant work, thanks for choosing to share this with us,
Ben.

You are on the right track with your arms. When I saw the picture, I noticed the leather strap and thought "Ah he is thinking ahead!".  Your puppet is going to turn out well. Even if there are some things that do not work as you planned, like the arm rod, the end result will benefit from your planning and you'll have gained valuable lessons from the "mistakes".

Thank you guys SOOOO much for the amazing feedback! i know i can still cook up more and better ways to build so i hope to learn some great techniques from making my first rod puppet Anyways if anyone read jomama's comment about how to make a little white tooth line could you please find me a pic of "fun foam" or maybe something that you have used to make teeth?
Re: My brand spanking new project! Posted by Shawn on Aug 30, 2009
Here is an image of one name it is sold under.
funkyfoam

Some brand names:
Fun Foam
Foamies
Funky Foam

A google search of any of those gives you results of where you can buy it.

Hey guys i really need to know something, how do you calculate the width of something when you use sheet foam? i just put the foam part of the head together and its not as round as i hoped, this happened with nicky too, but it was ok to me to get that wrong the first time, i gave the foam head pattern an extra 1 3/4 inch all around to make it as wide as my drawing but i clearly underestimated. what i mean is when you look at the paper cutout of the actual head size, you notice the foam cut is bigger, for the darts. well i need to know how you guys make the basic shape of the head just how you wanted it. the same goes for the body, i dont want it to end up being larger than i hoped for, please write back

HERES WHAT I GOT!IMG_1707
IMG_1706 yay!

and heres what i had before:IMG_1708

IMG_1715 wrong!

anyways heres the rest of my progress.
IMG_1709
this is mouthpiece 2.0 it will be alot stronger than nicky's i bet.
IMG_1717
the red stuff is leather and i know this screams NOOB but i had no othe options, im also worried about the smallness of the hands.
IMG_1718
OK now before you go off laughing or something lets be mature, it at least turned out well and the body is really snug on my arm, its gonna be real trick sewing the fleece to that :[
Re: My brand spanking new project! Posted by Shawn on Sep 05, 2009
Great job. The shape of everything is really good. Yes the hands do look a bit small but when you sew the fleece hands make them a bit bigger and you can always stuff some poly fill in the fingers.  See if you can find Rosie's post where she talks about how she covered here head.  It shows the method of draping and that should not be too hard to do with your body. If I can find the link I'll post it here for you.
Re: My brand spanking new project! Posted by Shawn on Sep 05, 2009
Well I thought it was one of Rosie's post but I guess not. There was a post that kind of showed how the person figured out the fabric pattern by draping the fabric over the foam.
