I think you're right Daryl, it seems like the best solution to all the various types of head shapes. I loathe the idea of making the skin from a separate pattern.

BTW, is there a pattern for a pin head floating around anywhere. This is AQ's and would be perfect...

Maybe if I could see a flat version of it?

i have a 2-d pic of the head pattern on page 2. an i have some big ol' t-shirts so ill use them. still i really need to know where i can get a wig that can fit a big head.

Ok, thanks! I saw that but I wasn't sure if it made the pinhead I saw, it didn't look like it would.

I'll try to eyeball it and make up a pattern.

Ok, AQ, one last time, you're saying that this

AQ,
Just go to a regular wig store to get a wig that well fit your puppet.   If it is a bit big, it is very easy to cut some out of the back of it to make it smaller.

Rosie,
I think this is the first "pattern" he tried. If I am seeing this correct he simply expaned the entire original drawing by like around 1" except for the mouth.

The image you posted was his second attempt that he liked and you'll notice that it is not and even expansion.

Yes it does rosie :] the very top is 2 inches and the bottom is 1" but i gave the chin a little extra, i might fix that cuz it looks a little big when the mouth is closed.

and another tip, move the darts a little more toward the front of the head, i can tell that will make it look even better.

AvenueQ,

I have a couple of questions about your mouth plate.  Is that black elastic on there or what?  And what is the glue... hot glue or cement?

Great Job btw.

Ok angel, ill tell all, first off, I used two black pieces of foam core board for the plates, then i used suede leather for the hinge (make sure you leave space between the two plates before HOT glueing, and finally take two really thick elastic bands and cut them to whatever size you want for your thumb and drench the extra slack in superglue so it has a very strong bond. also i put a big chunk of foam inside the upper lip of the head to keep my fingers from moving.

Thanks for the info!  I wondered if the black elastic was like one of my ponytail holders!

hey Q! looks whose giving puppet advice now!  Awesome my man congrats,  now I'll let you in on my little plan for hair....you see there is this holiday called Halloween coming up, and all these stores are gorging themselves on merchandise for said holiday, especially those huge costume stores that only pop-up this time of year.  In the coming weeks sales of this product will level off and eventually begin to bottom out.  This will in turn will prompt discounting to liquidate  their Halloween assets before the market is gone, they can't sit on this stuff until next year!   Already the wigs at Jo Ann are %40 off, the closer to Halloween the cheaper they will become.  So go scout the stores in your local area and get an idea of what you want and what there stock is like(most places have dozens upon dozens of the same style and won't run out regardless of the discount allotted). Visit these store every ten days or so and watch the prices fall. When the wigs are cheap enough for your liking snatch up as many as you can afford, stock up on primary colors(i.e. blond, brunette, redhead)  The hair can always be modified to a different style,  but you cant change the color.  As for the punk hair and things of that nature their nice to have but remember the are not as versatile as the three main staples.

Here's to finding a lifetime supply of hair for a buck!!  Cheers!

Oh yeah....the same usually goes for a lot of fabric at Jo Ann,  most importantly f aux fur...so if you need some of that keep an eye out for that as well.
