To Be Offended or Not To Be Offended Posted by Matt on Aug 30, 2009
So I was checking the access logs for my websites to see how many hits I've been getting and how people are finding my site. One of the referral pages was titled "Puppet Blog Lineup", so I decided to check it out. If found a one link to my blog and a one sentence description. They described my blog as "ghetto", but a really good source for videos for many different online puppet projects and types of puppetry. The use of "ghetto" is not explained. I like criticism, but I prefer it to be constructive.

On the other hand they did say I was a good source, and listed me with 5 other really good blogs. I guess its better to get recognition than not get it at all, and people are actually finding my sites because of his page.

Hey as long as they gave you the link, I would say it is a good thing.  In this day and age, who know if they really meant anything negative by the word ghetto.  I have a hard enough time keeping up with the slang from my own era.

I did find this definition.................. while the word originated from Italy I would not take it offensive.
In the United States, the word "ghetto" has also come to be used as an adjective to describe a certain way of dressing, speaking, and behaving. In this sense, "Ghetto" constitutes a subculture, especially among teenagers in urban centers, associated with hip-hop music and a rebellious attitude. As it has become a slang term of art among young people, the meaning of the term morphs constantly.

There are hundreds of definitions according to the urban dictionary

I think ghetto is being used in a generic way to describe the lack of bells and whistle on your blog that most people of the blogosphere have come to expect.  I used to do some web design and found that too many people prefer style over functionality.  You created the site to inform others about what you know in the field of puppetry....And this place says your a great place for information on said subject, so I would say "mission accomplished"

I did not know that ghetto had so many definitions, thanks Billy.

Thanks everyone for helping to put this into perspective.

I thought ghetto meant something positive (well street slang wise) I heard the youth say that is so Ghetto when they see something cool or neat.....but as U said there are so many definitions it is hard to know what era they are in and how it is used on that site....oh well any advertisement is better than no advertisement....lol.
