Interview with Ronnie Burkett Posted by Na on Sep 03, 2009
I went and interviewed him yesterday, and OMG it was so

You can listen to the interview here, plus see some amazing shots of his latest show, Billy Twinkle (and one of me and him, squee!):

I am sssssssssssssooooooooooooooooooooo jealouse!!!! You met Ronnie Burkett, lucky girl!!! I never met the guy, I never saw one of his show's, but I am a huge fan of his artistery and his puppets. I first discovered him 3 years ago when I decided to build puppets. I was eating up anything I could about puppets. And while doing a research on puppetry in Canada, I of course found out about Ronnie Burkett. So now, each time I see his name somewhere, It peek's my interrest alot. Yes, I too fall to jelly about Jim Henson's work, but I also fall to Jelly over Ronnie's work.

Ok, I will stop now. I have to go get the mop cuz I druled all over my floor. LOL Thanks again Na for this precious gift you have given us all. Puppet hug!!!

You did a really good job on the interview.  Your write up on the page is also very well done.  I have got to remember to visit your site more often!

Just in case no one has said it to you lately.... "You are great!".  I am so impressed with you and what you have accomplished.  You see something you want and go about making it happen.  You should be very proud of yourself, I know I am.

Na, do you know of a good ressource on the internet that talk's about Ronnie Burkett? I remember that last time I did a research on him I did not find much. I only found very little video's on youtube and only his 15 year old paper maché recipe and that was pretty much it. I would so much love to learn more about this awesome Canadian talent!!!!

For example, does he have a official website?
Where can I have more information about his building techniques?
That sort of thing.

Thanks!

It is part of the rare information I had learned on Ronnie Burkett. There is just not much on him on the net and I find it odd since he is this big in the Canadian Puppetry scene.

I saw that production, Billy Twinkle, about 4 or 5 months ago it is a great production.  He is a great talent and very open to talk with.  I spent dinner with him after the show along with his sound person and had a great time.  He is very nice and talented.  I don't think there is a lot about him on the net Should.  He is world renowned but the funding to the arts in Canada has been cut dramatically and it has effected Ronnie Burkett.  I hope that things get sorted out so that we/he can continue to see these wonderful productions come to life.

BTW it was a great interview Na congradulations on getting that....you might be one of the few that have such an interview on the intertnet.

Thanks for sharing......

Thanks everyone - I'm glad you all enjoyed it! I had a great time, and will be seeing the show tomorrow night. It was really wonderful being able to see backstage and everything up close for the first time!

Should: You definitely need to go see his work. It's am-az-ing! As for his stuff online, I do know he has a Facebook page (but it's not really updated, I have a feeling his agent just set it up by the looks of it), plus a couple of videos on Youtube discussing marionette building and performance...but that's it. I think though if a lot of puppeteers harassed him (in a nice way of course) about putting more of his tips out there, he would, given perhaps, more time to do it. As Shawn points out, the only official site that I've found is his agent's. I suspect it's really more a matter of time, and not having enough to fully sit down and write everything out - plus, he might not realise how much of an online interest there would be for it.

Oh, now I'm jealous! To have been able to chat with Ronnie instead of doing the interview would have been personally so much better... but it would have gone against the grain to keep all that good stuff to myself. Still, dinner would be nice     And yes, it's probably a very rare interview, not something mainstream media would do and spend all their time asking all the wrong questions.

Shawn, you have no idea how grateful and pleased from your comments. A lot of what I've been doing lately has been going wrong (including a commission a couple of weeks ago that went sour and has turned me off them for life) and I've been very worried about money since coming back to Australia. It's very comforting to hear some words of encouragement. Thank you very much - I shall try to live up to being great
