If you can't find gasket rubber you can use Funky Foam. I am pretty sure your hobby store is going to have it. I comes in sheets like construction paper. You can also use a heavy cardboard covered in fabric on each side. Some folks use the material that temp signs like for realators are made out of. It is a heavy type of plastic sign board. I've even seen it in art and hobby stores before.
