Dutch puppets Posted by LJ on Sep 15, 2009
I finally loaded the pictures of the puppets my son made for our community puppet theatre - just a reminder that these are Dutch puppets. We perform on Sinterklaas Day in December and in May during our Dutch Heritage celebration. The costumes are from the old puppets but my son sculpted the new heads and will be making the hands over in December. Just wanted to share!IMG_4800IMG_4801IMG_4804IMG_4803IMG_4811IMG_4813IMG_4814

He did a nice job with the puppets. The new heads fit well with the costumes, they don't look like new heads on old costumes. Love them!

My son is 22 - majoring in puppetry and children's theatre at college.  The heads are carved out of styrofoam for the base with beads, etc. used to build up features and then covered with cheese cloth and tissue paper mixed with a glue mixture (like paper mache') Then painted.
Thanks for the comments - I will pass them on to him!

Absolutely beautiful work.  So cool that your whole family gets involved.  Harrison, who is now four, is showing interest in helping me and he definitely LOVES to perform with them.  He thinks that shadow puppetry is the "coolest." :D  I like the look of these puppets very much.  Job well done!

He did a great job on those puppets....like jomama said they look like they were all made the same time both the head and clothing......glad to see the family working together on a project.

I realy like the puppets and they are Dutch puppets. I really love them. It will be fun for the kids on sinterklaas day.
The only thing I miss is the mijter on the head of sinterklaas, is he there ?? http://www.transparent.com/dutch/sinterklaas-i/  I found the link over sinterklaas in English who tells a little bit about the Dutch feast only it begins half november this year the 14th. It is a pity you don't know it there..... In this link is also a picture of sinterklaas with a mijter. (hat)

Do I see it write that Jan Klaassen (the man) has wooden shoes ?
