Belly-Button Monster Hand/Rod Puppet Posted by esch on Oct 03, 2009
dang, i'm on a roll, lol...here's another design I've been playing with. I'm thinking of selling these at craft fairs, Etsy, etc. Any feedback? Ideas on prices? They're not too hard for me to build (got a half dozen going already). I've had kids try him and they seem to be able to work him easily...

My puppet maker sells a lovely little puppet called a Mopsy for $29.95 at the markets here in Australia. They sell like Hot cakes at that price. From what I can see they look very similar in size. I would suggest a price of $50.00 as your puppet has arm rods and fantastic eyes, plus those horns what a handsome little dude.
PS: Here is a picture of the Mopsys for you to compare.

oh, don't those Mopsys look fun! and yeah, they do look close in size. My arm rods are simply 1/4 inch dowels that I spray black and then dip the ends in rubber to give a better grip. They're looking a bit short in the picture, but I think longer rods may be more difficult for kids to handle.
And I was thinking around $25-30 dollars...$50 would be awesome, lol,
and thanks for the compliments ...Mr. Belly-Button Monster is now preening in the mirror, thanks to you, lol

That's a great fleece pattern, and I love the belly button. He really looks good! I don't know anything about pricing, but it sounds like Henry is leading you in the right direction.

If you can keep the price at what you had originally thought of you'll do better I think. I am sure that they are worth $50.00 but that may take you out of the market for a kids puppet. Make sure that if you are marketing to kids that you set an age limit. They have small parts that can come off. The puppets that is not the kids.

Why not download a copy of Andrew's price calculator? I use it all the time. The thread should be stickied somewhere in the forums here...
Great puppet by the way!

The Andrew's price calculator is no longer available on-line. Does anyone have a copy of it? I think I have one on my home computer but won't be back home for another 5 weeks. I am sure that Andrew would not mind if it was shared.
Re: Belly-Button Monster Hand/Rod Puppet Posted by Na on Oct 03, 2009
I have a copy. Is there a way to upload it here? If not, I can upload it on my site.
Re: Belly-Button Monster Hand/Rod Puppet Posted by Shawn on Oct 03, 2009
It's an exel file right? I think you would need to zip the file first for the system here to accept it. I think it would be fine to upload it to your site though since if I remember right Andrew released it under a Creative Commons license.

On second look... it seems all I have on my computer is my own modified version. If I can find the original, I'll definitely post it.
I do agree, I recall Andrew posting it under creative commons.
