Mmm, that didn't work out, I thought my pattern was similar enough to the PP pattern but apparently not, I tried different % but it didn't work, the biggest problem was the width of the sleeves. Oh well it will probably fit something later down the line. Great pattern though Chris and instructions, a definite keeper.

Was the width not enough or too much?  You might need to adjust the two parts by different widths and then adjust the arch of the sleeve opening to match the one on the sleeve once you have it set right.

Are those pictures of your puppets?

Hi Shawn, because the problem was the width of the sleeve being way too big it makes adjustment more challenging I guess, it's doable tho. The problem being the armhole fit of course. But I do have software on my comp to design all kinds of clothes so I'll probably just design something simple and draw it from off the monitor so the size is puppet sized.
Yes, those puppets in the picture are mine.

Depending on how far off the width is off you might be able to taper down from the arm hole to the width you need. Does that make sense?
Re: A basic shirt pattern Posted by Rosie H on Oct 16, 2009
Yes, it does, though I would prolly have to start from the waist and taper as I get near to the arm and then continue tapering around and down to the wrist, does that make sense, lol

I was not sure at first but then when I went back and looked at the picture of your puppets I noticed that your puppet bodies where bulbous or egg shaped kind of. Now I see why just enlarging the pattern was not working.  In order to get the shirt to fit at the largest part of the body it made the other areas to large. Did you sew up a test shirt?  If you did then you could put it on the puppet wrong side out then pin to take it in where you have excess.  That should then give you a form fitting pattern to go off of.
Re: A basic shirt pattern Posted by Chris Arveson on Oct 19, 2009
Rosie, sorry the pattern didn't quite work for you. One thing I found in enlarging the pattern was it also enlarged the hem lines, leaving a lot more material on the outside of the hem. Also, my different puppets don't necessarily share the same proportion of arm length to body size, so I needed to take greater care in adjusting the sleeve length. (I ended up with a short-sleeved shirt)

Wow! You have a real army of puppets there!

I was curious about the clothing design software you mentioned. Is it a program for professional designers?

Hiya Chris, here's the info on the pattern maker software, you can download free trials and see how they work
http://www.wildginger.com/Products/default.htm
There's a free download (free wild things)that has no restrictions, you can make accessories with it, like hats and bags, for free. I also see another free software called Icare for gowns, pajamas, and accessories for patient medical care. Just click through the list of software available, hope this comes in handy.

I Pm'd you Chris, too.
