simple moving mouth directions Posted by cj on Oct 28, 2009
I am pretty new to all this puppet construction. I saw a puppet that was a foot. Looked like it was made out of posterboard, but it had a moving mouth and it was adorable. Any idea how to do that?

If I am following what you saw then most likely they had cut the mouth out of the face and then put a piece behind it that slides up and down.  The piece behind has the mouth inside painted on to it along with the mouth closed.

Welcome, could you sketch a rough picture of that. I think I know what you mean but I am not sure-Steve

I'll assume that was directed at me.   Right now since I am still out of town I don't have the ability to scan or sketch and image.

Maybe I can re-phrase things.  Take a piece of paper or poster board and cut a circle. On the circle where a mouth would be if it was a face cut a half moon. Paint it yellow and putt two dots for eyes. Then take a strip of paper or poster board that is the width of the half moon and at least twice the height. Color half of it red and the other half yellow. Put this behind the cut out and move it up and down.  It will look like the puppet is talking!

Thanks, Shawn. Actually it was cjs question I didn't understand. If I hadn't tried to read through so fast I would have read your first answer and understood. Sorry Steve

Thanks everyone. Thanks for your help Shawn. I think I have it figured out now. I am always looking for something fun and new to add a little variety to our puppet ministry . We are getting there, I still have sooooo much to learn.
