need help with puppet. Posted by Pinwheel4ever on Nov 27, 2009
Hey folks;
   Iam trying to make these puppets I saw way back i the 80's on a puppet show called "Pinwheel". Iam not sure where to start with this puppet. Does anyone have an idea of what pattern I should use. I also notice that the puppets face have cleffs in them for like cheek bones. Hows that done. Thanks folks! The puppet on the show is called Minus.

Well, I'm not sure if I'm really the one to help you here... there are a lot more qualified people around.  But, since no one else has answered yet, I will try to give a few suggestions.
First of all, are you talking about these puppets?  http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t42/Jellicle_Ice_Kat/Classic%20Nickelodeon%20-%20General/Jake_Plus_Minus.jpg

As far as the pattern, try http://www.projectpuppet.com  They have many different shapes to choose from.

For the cheek bones, you can simply build that up to what you want, with additional foam under the fabric.  Something like what I did with this puppet:  IMG_0591
Of course, you don't want them as pronounced, but that is the effect that I wanted here.
Simply add a piece of foam to the main shape, and carve it down to what you want.

I hope that helps a little bit!
Good luck!

To post a pic here, you have to create your own gallery, then add it to your post.

Great advice L.P.P.!!
if you are not very experienced at building puppets (and even if you are!!) then i would highly recommend going to www.projectpuppet.com (just like lovable suggests) there are some fantastic patterns there and they can be used as brilliant starting points, for example- you take the 'punto' head pattern (just hypathetically, but the 'round head pattern is probably closer to the shape you are looking for) and simply add foam peices to the egg shaped head in the areas you want to build up, in your case small sections to create 'clefts' in the cheeks, and if you find that there is a little too much foam in certain areas, then you can trim some away, its easier than it sounds and if you are looking to cover them, then project puppet also offer fleece covering patterns too, but if you are brave you can cover the foam head in your own way.
anyway, im waffling on, so good luck and i hope we have been some help so far.
Ben.
p.s. andrews 'round head' pattern in billys gallery is also a great pattern to start with.
