Teacher with passion for puppets Posted by Puppets Review on Dec 12, 2009
Hello everyone.

I've been a lurker for awhile. I love looking at the all the fantastic puppets in the gallery!

I'm a first grade teacher in texas. I've always loved to make things. My family labeled me at the artsy one in the family. In the past year, I've become interested in puppets. Eventually that led to me wanting to make them. I have some ideas in my head that I plan on getting down in a sketch book soon.

My first moving mouth puppet I made from the Bible puppet pattern. She is not that great as you can see in the first pic below, but I learned a lot from making her. The next one (2nd) I made turned out a lot better. My plans are to create the characters and tape short dialogue to put on youtube for now. I would like to do a puppet show for my school but I'm so shy   and nervous, I don't think that would work well.

I made these awhile ago. I put it down after getting a new job. Making more money I have since purchased many puppet books including, puppet planet, and the foam book and now I'm in the process of making more puppets. I hope to post more pics in the future.

I just wanted to introduce myself to the puppet community!

Hello bdsweetie, welcome to P&S!
I'm a teacher myself and remember: once bitten by the puppet virus... it's for life!

I have to say that your puppets look great!

Hope to see and hear more of you in the near future.

Howdy bdsweetie!  It's great to have another Texan here.  Your doing a great job.  Keep it up.  Don't worry about being to shy to perform.  The kids at your school will love it.  The best part is you are hidden during the show.  Everyone here is very helpful, so if you need building advice just ask.  Everyone will be along shortly to say

WELCOME!!!   Glad to welcome another educator who has seen the benefits of traveling down the road toward the "Foam Side".  I am a former teacher now traveling full-time as a children's entertainer, but I also teach teachers how to use puppetry in their classrooms.  I have even written a book which is a basic "textbook" of sorts which goes over basic puppetry skills, brain research which supports the use of puppetry in the classroom and directions for making simple puppets to use in the classroom or to have students use!  Before I retired from teaching to travel full-time I became convinced of how IMPORTANT puppetry can be in a classroom and saw first had over and over its benefits.  Glad to meet someone else who feels the same way!  WELCOME again and have fun learning!!!

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome! Scared? Shy? One joyous thing about puppetry is the ability to be well hidden during the performance! I have a face for puppetry . . . Glad you have gotten started, and I'm glad you've moved from lurker to poster. Thanks for the pictures, and I'm looking forward to hearing more.
