Jon,
I think you might be right it is very tight...I saw the 1/2...thought it might not hold up as well, but I might get a piece and try it out. This is my first foamie...so I figured it might be a little of trial and error.
thanks,
Dennis

It might seem obvious but is your basement well ventilated? the glues do smell strong, aromatic compounds are usually worse for you the better they smell but people are learning to recognise that strong, un-naturaly sweet smells are usually pretty toxic!
If you can't do it right under an extractor fan I'd hope it is a big space, I've been pretty gung ho about fumes before my self, but I have noticed the odd headache a few times and I'm starting to respect my mortality a little better now. A ventilator mask really sends a message that you know the stuff is nasty and people don't like you doing it near by. If it's not too cold I'd really suggest doing it out side with a fan behind you!
Use a hairdryer to improve curing times in the cold...
Concerned about your health...

Ditto about the vapor concerns. Make sure you properly ventilated and protected.

Contact cement can be very toxic. To be honest with you I often would use the stuff without a mask but I was always in a pretty large space. Even with that I sometimes felt the affects of the fumes in a headache as the others have mentioned. It can be hard during the winter when it is cold out to go outside but if you have a basement you might be ok if you glue and then leave the room while it sets up. Remember the idea of contact cement is that you coat each side then let it dry for 15 to 20 mins till it is dry to the touch. Then you join the two pieces together. If you have kids don't let them in the basement while you are doing this.

Thank you all for your concern...I appreciate it very much. Like I said before I love this forum, everyone helps and looks out for others.
Well, taking your comments into consideration I built this:
My wife says she can't smell the glue so I guess it is working...WOOHOO!
Foamcore and an old box fan...
Thanks again and Happy New Year!!!!

I've thought of making something similar but haven't because I've been able to work as shawn described and it's worked ok.
