The "dimple" on the left side is ok, but on the right side its a little bit to much.

I guess is because the mouth is too open and the mouth plate as well, that may cause the problem

The design looks great - can't wait to see the final product!
Re: Design for my first puppet Posted by miguel on Jan 08, 2010
Its just a thought. But I think you can try Na's pattern for that skecth(Believe me it will work fantastic) its a great pattern!
Re: Design for my first puppet Posted by Shawn on Jan 08, 2010
I think that Miguel hit on part of the issue.  I think in the pattern you have the mouth open just a little to much to start.  I think closing up the mouth to start with some and then perhaps widening the back of the mouth plate as Jon suggested would get you what you want. The length of the lower jaw of the mouth plate looks a bit long to me also.  It is really hard to tell in the pictures for sure about the length.  I could be wrong about that.

It almost looks like the mouthplate and foam are not centered on each other. Mark the center of the foam mouth and the center of the mouthplate and match the marks when gluing in the mouthplate. I always start by matching the center then the corners of the mouth, then you can attach the rest of the mouth.

i think that the mouthplate shape may be a little bit oddly shaped for the shape of the mouth, but if all else fails, then you could always buy some hollow fibre filler (pillow stuffing, looks like white candy floss) and gently (not too much) pack out the 'cheeks', so that you dont get those nasty unequal dimples when you close the mouth. other than that, you could always glue some extra bits on the ckeeks to create the look you want, what i sometimes do is cut out a circle about the size of a grapefruit, then cut it in half and take one half and line the straight egde up with the lower mouth, corner of the mouth and the upper mouth (the middle of the straight egde should line up with the corner of the mouth) and glue the straight edge in place, then gently fold the semi-circle back and glue inplace (dont sytretch it too far back) to create slightly puckered cheeks that will not go concave when the mouth is closed, it also gives a slight smile to the face (which was my origional use for this method, but i found it useful for other bits and pieces)
i hope that this suggestion helps, but if it doesnt, then try it out in the future, i gaurentee you wont be dissapointed, its a great effect and a fab way to add another feature to your puppet.
good luck and i look forward to your progress.
Ben.

First a big thanks to all who all who wants to help me with the dimple problem.
I bulded a new head last night but I thinks the hole puppet is getting to big.
I leave the "dimple head pattern" in the back for future.
If someone want to have this pattern, just send me an email with the code name "dimple pattern"
Instead of a custom head I think I use the normal round head pattern and the hole puppet shrinks from 58cm to 36cm.

@Miguel
Do you mean the "Round Head Foam Puppet Pattern" from NA's Website?
Sorry but I dont have the money to purchase something.
If theres no free pattern that makes the head i want, than i have to build one.

@jezzbo
I really appreciate your advices, but i dont get what you mean.
I get it till the part where the you cut the circle shape in half.
Don't be cross with me but your sentences are really loooooooooooooooong for me to follow

I made me a little helper to bend the wire for the hands

next step will be "covering the foam with fabric"

There is another free pattern from(I guess) Magenta, that could work for you(At least the top part of the head, the botton one you can work it out).

Maybe Mr. Fuller can help you with that(I don't know how to get it here). He is good to find thinks, and beside a good friend!
Re: Design for my first puppet Posted by Shawn on Jan 08, 2010
There are a couple of patterns here that are free.  Billy has the Barbra Dewy one in his Gallery.

I thought there where some others but can't find them at the moment. I think the one Miguel mentioned is also in Billy's Gallery now.
