Hand sewing terry cloth Posted by Brando on Jan 10, 2010
I'm using a Locking whip stitch, but I the seams are unraveling slowly.(Faster if I actually try to practice) I have tried an assortment of stitches but same thing happens.
Anyone have a different stitch they use? One that is more effective. Its almost as If I have lay down a seam, then sew the seams together.

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff......................... When I use terry cloth I usually secure the edges from raveling by using a zig zag stitch on my sewing machine. You can use a serge sewing machine to.

It can be done by hand using a overcast stitch............For a more secure edge, work a second row (crossed overcast stitches) back over the first row of overcast stitches.

When I sewed my prairie dogs I just used a ladder stitch. When I did it I made sure that the edge of the fabric was turned before I pulled the stitch tight. When I did this I didn't have any problem with the fabric unraveling. If I didn't it would unraveling in an instant. The secret was making sure that the fabric edge was turned about a 1/4 of an inch before drawing the stitch light.
