The Ovale Puppet head covering pattern Posted by powerboxx on Jan 11, 2010
Hi, I purchased the Trio series patterns (Punto, Rotondo and Ovale) from ProjectPuppet.com
However, ProjectPuppet does not sell the fleece pattern for the Ovale head....
I'm in a middle of a crisis right now. My boss had asked me to create a girl puppet using the Ovale shaped pattern, but since there is no fleece pattern I'm stuck....
I tried following the instructions from their custom fleece covering tutorial http://www.projectpuppet.com/Page.bok?template=puppet-facial-features-tutorial, but I've already wasted so much fleece, I cannot afforfd to lose more. I work better by following simple patterns.
Does anyone have the fleece head covering pattern for the Ovale puppet. I will pay for it.

hey! to P&S!
Try using the rotondo fabric pattern, doing some modifications(I guess it will work great)
(That what I use for some of my puppets. Take some fabric pattern, doing no mayor modifications and then, voila!)
Hope works for you!

You could also do the drape method which involves attaching the mouth to the puppet head and then draping it over the head and making darts hopefully away from the main face. You will need to tack it down. I have a video on the method but I just checked my You Tube and it is not uploaded yet....I will talk to the person doing it for me and see if they could get it uploaded in the next two days. Then that may help you....it really is a hard method to explain.....my You Tube account is the button on the left under my avatar. There are many other video's as well I am slowly getting them up and going. My goal is the end of the month.

Daryl's videos are a very valuable reference to actually see it done but till then there is another draping tutorial done with stills at:
http://swazzle.com/blogs/2006/03/puppet-building-tutorial-ratchet.html
The tutorial covers a lot of the build but if you can get to the draping stage it's pretty good. When I was first looking at this I found it hard to keep the steps in order as the individual steps do not link to the next one. I found it better to open the page and open each step in a new browser window and close them as I was done...
I've just thought of another solution...
http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-sewing-pattern-from-a-packing-tape-mould/
worth a look also as another tutorial on the same method...

Best of luck

The Swazzle tutorial was very helpful to me when I first began puppet building. Can't wait to see your puppet.
