Animatronics and the Mechanics of Puppetry Posted by Wonderologist on Jan 13, 2010
Hello All!

Let's talk about the ways to incorporate articulated realistic movements into our puppets. I know blinking eyes are really popular and really cool. I also know that most puppets do not have them. I have heard a lot of people say that they are over rated. Ok. To each his own. But I want to talk about it. Movement, materials, mechanics, and magic...they can bring a creature to life.

I was reading in a book that I got from my local used bookstore and inside it had an interview with Jim Henson. The interviewer, at one point, essentially asked him: where do you draw the line between: puppet and mask, or costume... what about all of this new mechanized stuff? Where do you see the line is drawn between them? Jim answered simply: I don't.

I have seen tutorials on you tube for stuff like this. Let's post what we know about it, and move into this world a little deeper. Together.

hi Wonderologist  ,
lets talk about blinking eyes.
Everyone saw the basic video of how to make blinking eyes http://puppeteersunite.com/?page_id=588.
But I saw some interesting pictures of another construct for blinking eyes.
My problem is how that thing works exactly.

Maybe we can figure it out together.

May I suggest Dr. Puppets Mech. eye tutorial.......................... It shows a similar technique and the tutorial is resonable.
