Re: NH Puppet Builder Posted by April Dawne on Feb 09, 2010
Thanks! I like her a lot too! I've got her just about finished now. The hair is an actual wig that I cut the crown from (top of the head) and just glued in place, so I can use barrettes and headbands and whatnot to style it differently if I want to. Her body is fleece-covered foam with "buds". I'll upload pics soon of the finished puppet I'm also working on a new one now who's head is nearly as big as mine, totally built from foam and then fleece was stretched trimmed and sewn directly onto it. I'm really addicted to this!

Ok, so the girl puppet is finished and now some pics are uploaded. Any ideas for a name? I was thinking April or Sophie? photo043

Wao, Love it. Good job. She looks like Lilly!

Very nice.  I love the different "tube tops" she has on in the other pics in your gallery.
Re: NH Puppet Builder Posted by April Dawne on Feb 11, 2010
Thanks Shawn I want to make a bell-sleeved top for her from an actual shirt soon instead of "making do" with stuff that just isn't quite right for her. I've come up with my own pattern for a fraggle-style puppet from the glorified sock puppet pattern, once it is finished I will post more pics I'm thinking of coming up with a name for them so I can make more and sell them.

Thanks Miguel, I like Lilly! That's not a bad name at all!

Great puppet!
I think she looks more like an April.
Re: NH Puppet Builder Posted by StiqPuppet Productions on Feb 16, 2010
My suggestion on naming a puppet is to develop a character and have the character come out through the name.....I have many puppets that I have made that don't have a name because I have no character in mind they are just creations from my mind.   Just a suggestion since it really is not just sticking a name to a picture or a still sculpture it is more.

Heya Daryl, thanks for the advice... and might I add also THANKS for those YouTube tutorials! I discovered them one day while doing some googling on puppet parts you do great work! Lots of useful information as well! I've made her shirt now from a tutorial offered by PuppetLady here. Once I have washed it I have an iron on for the front, then I will dress her and take pics I'm waiting on LOTS of new material, including different furs so I can start trying my hand at monster puppets :D woooooot! I have even more people requesting puppets now too!

Ditto to Daryl's remarks. I have found that most of my puppets have named themselves, even though it sometimes took months. Once I understood their characters, the names were obvious.
