I did a search for arm rod attachment on the net and came up with  a couple of items. I used a metal loop around the wrist before and that was good...what method does everyone else use.

How about the Dan Horn and Orson set up...does he use elastic?

Pictures would be nice...I'll be posting pics of mine as I build them.

Mmm, something else I've been pondering recently, I'm looking forward to the responses here. 

I have You Tube video's on a method on attaching rod's but they are permanent for the method that I use.  I will have the video up in the next week on how to do it....as well on how to make rods from scratch.

Here is a pic of the ones I'm making. 

Small blocks of wood. 

A drill hole made for the wire (I'm using coat hangers) and a little channel cut out with an xacto blade that the wire will lay in.

Those look like they are going to be very big hands. Do you cut the wood length down once you have the hole drilled and channel cut?

If you want wire rods that do not bend as easy as coat hangers, you can use what is called spring wire or piano wire. I find it in a hardware store here in KC that is older and locally run. I've never been able to find it in the big chains. I've also seen it in smaller hobby stores that cater to model builders and such.

It is very difficult to bend and in fact to get the top bend I normally use a vise and pliers.

The image is of an hand hold for an arm rod. The square dowel rod had be modified to accept a piece of wire that will connect at the other end to the puppet's wrist. Below is a finished hand hold I made. I actually went all the way through with the piano wire, and then on the other side bent it down into the wood. Use some epoxy to hold everything into place, and then finished off by dipping the handle into plastic dip.

Okay...another question.  If I'm doing green screen stuff do I need to paint the rods green?

I would not paint them green. If the puppet had its hands in-front of itself or another puppet, you could then see through the puppet.
