My Real Life Puppet Posted by Nikole H. on Feb 21, 2010
I had to take a break from my puppet show project for my son's school when I was told last minute that they are having a storybook character parade. The children all dress up as their favorite storybook character. Most parents just stick their kids in last season's Halloween costume but being a puppet builder, I can't pass up this opportunity to do something fun. Harrison chose to be The Gingerbread Man which is one of the stories that I will be doing the puppet performance of. Thank goodness for my puppet building knowledge. I approached this just as I would if I were making a foam and fleece puppet. Now, mind you, it's been a few years since I made this type of puppet but it still turned out the way I wanted. I was lucky to even FIND the materials here in Singapore. It wasn't cheap as everything is imported but it was well worth it. Harrison LOVES his costume and is so proud to show it off tomorrow. I hunkered down this weekend and knocked out the project in two days. Here is the end result.
Not sure why the embedding link didn't work for me but here is the link to view it from my flickr page.
Here is the link to the video that shows all views of the costume and its movement.

Thanks everyone! xoxo The costume is of simple construction that I just made the neck opening really large so he can jump in and then it has velcro or hook and loop tape on the shoulders to keep it up. The head is of course not attached and made of two round seat cushions. One I made a hole for him to put his face through. It was fun and I can't wait to get started on his class costume for the end of the year performance. :D
