Dr. Puppet wired hands Posted by lovable puppet pals on Feb 21, 2010
I know I've been asking a lot of questions, but I have one more!  lol
A while back I purchased the Dr. Puppet download of the wired hands.  Unfortunately, it was on my old computer that crashed!
What I can't remember is what kind of glue to use in the hands with the wire.
If anyone knows the answer to that, please let me know!  Thanks!

If you're talking about wiring for poseable fingers, I just use hot glue most of the time. If you are sandwiching the wire between two pieces of foam, contact cement would probably be better.

Well, it's actually placed inside the one inch foam by cutting small slits throughout the hand.

Hot glue!

Wouldn't it be easier to make two pieces out of 1/2" foam, lay the wire in place on one and glue the other down on top? Then you could coat the edges with contact cement, wait for it to dry, then pinch the edges to round the fingers and hands? That's the process I've seen anyhow! I think it would be a huge pain to try to cut slits throughout the foam to fit the wires into!

Actually, it's a very simple process!  You should check out Dr. Puppet's tutorial on it to see.
I have done it the other way too, but these are MUCH better.  They are actually strong enough to even hold a cell phone or other heavier prop.

Hot glue!
Are you sure this is what he's used, or are you suggesting it?

I'll have to look into it then! If they can hold props, that would be great

I've had very good success with the sandwich method.  Just use contact cement to glue 1/2 inch foam together with the armiture wire sandwiched between.

And yes, if you fabric isn't too slippery your puppet can hold props. I always give my puppets posable hands.

Actually, I've made these hands many times already...I'm just wanting to know which glue Dr. Puppet suggests on his tutorial.  I can't remember!  Waaaa!  LOL
