Hello: Budding Artist: interested in Puppet making. Posted by NonsenseFairy on Feb 24, 2010
Hello, I'm not entierly sure If I belong here, as I have only made one set of puppets.
But for a recent college project (I study Art & Design at University level, but Im on a foundation course) I decided to make a couple of puppets/dolls. As Im not a puppet expert, and have only ever really admired puppets from a visual point of view, my puppets where more decorative objects than working puppets. But I'm very interested in making more puppets, and Im going to experiment with making my puppets move: properly, Ive been reading tutorials, and I have a rough idea of how to make puppets move properly, but I think the best way to learn, is to make!
So, Im hoping no-one will feel Im out of place here, as I suppose what's most important is love for puppets and puppetry?
One of my hero's is Lotte Reiniger, silhouette animator, with an amazing talent for creating silhouette puppets.
And have a collection of Vintage Alice in Wonderland puppets that I love to bits.
Here are my (that I made) puppets: I love them dearly. <3
Their names are Herbert & Violet. (After my nain and taid).
I've also made a short animation/film with them. (clickable thumbnails)

Hi! Welcome to Puppets and Stuff! You belong here, even if you've never made a puppet. This is a place for anyone with any interest in puppets! Great pics!

Thanks for the lovely welcome.
The foundation course is 'abit of everything' but Im specialising in Illustration/3D Illustration.
I like to work with paper a lot, layering paper and using paints as bases for my drawings, aswell as making 'sculptures' out of paper.
I think there's more to illustration than simply drawing little pictures, or using photoshop, infact, I hate 'making art' on the computer, I'm very much a 'hands on' person.

Being a "Hands on" person is the best way to be a puppeteer!!! Thanks for sharing!
